SB 2508 PROTECTS FLORIDA'S WATER RESOURCES

  • The Florida Legislature has invested $1.6 billion over five years to restore and protect state water resources. Projects funded include the EAA Reservoir, the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Project, the West Basin Storage Reservoir and the Indian River Lagoon-South project.

  • This year, the Florida Legislature is seeking to allocate an additional $875 million in new water resource projects.

  • Senate Bill 2508 will ensure the projects funded by the Florida Legislature properly manage Florida’s water resources and that agencies responsible for the projects are held accountable to current statutory requirements.

  • Florida’s water resources belong to Florida -- NOT the federal government. That's why it's important to hold agencies accountable to Florida law.

  • New transparency measures will prohibit subjective and unfair prioritization of resources during water shortages.
